Swim class. Coach Jim had us do a new one tonight. It was called "swim with stick". The idea is that you grab a long pole as wide as you can, then... swim. Very weird. Took 150 yards or so to get the hang of it. Weird as it was, it kind of helped keep me long and straight, because any deviation from long-and-straight would really slow me down. 2100 yards or so total, with tons of drills. 100swim/100breast/100back for warmup, then 200 each of swim with stick, hesitation, finger tip drag, fist, one arm, pull, and breast. Then 300 swim, and 100 cooldown.

Same treadmill run as always. HR 161 during. Felt hot, but otherwise fine.

Morning run. Same as yesterday. And the day before. I could imagine this routine is going to get boring very, very quickly. It was 18 degrees outside, though, and there was no way in hell I was going to run outside in that kind of cold. HR was 152 (after 15 minutes) @ 6.0mph/1%. HR went to 156 @ 6.1mph/1%. I need to do more testing of my HR zones for running. Planning a core workout later.

Trying to get my sleep schedule adjusted. Might take a few days, but hopefully once it is adjusted I'll be able to stick to something resembling a normal schedule.

Treadmill run after I woke up (at 3:00AM). The same treadmill workout as last night. 3.0 miles, 1% grade, 6.0mph. RPE for this one was low, but I once again wasn't wearing my HRM.

3.0 miles, all at 1% grade, 6.0mph on the treadmill. Wasn't wearing my HRM, but my HR was probably higher than normal. My RPE was up.

Been sleeping A LOT lately, which makes me think my body is busy trying to fight something off. That, or I'm just a lazy sack of shit :-).

Been keeping up with my stretching and core stuff, but nothing substantial enough to even log.

Indoor brick. 46 minutes on bike / 20 minutes on treadmill. I felt okay, but didn't have a fan on me during either part of the workout, so I was hot as hell. HR was over 160 on the treadmill when I was doing 6.2mph@1%.

Skipped workouts yesterday and the day before. I haven't been feeling 100%. Haven't had a good mental attitude either. I've been eating well, but sleeping poorly.

Great 40 minute core workout. My core workouts are really coming together. I used to do the exercises during commercial breaks, but now I can more or less just do them nonstop. Sittups, straight-leg sittups, 100's, crunches, bicyles, twist crunches, twist bicycles, side lifts (forward/back, up/down, circle... 70 total each leg), tables, tables+leg raises, tables+arms over head. Solid workout. Maybe I felt good on my run tonight because of the core work and stretching that I've been doing? Or was it just that my running legs are well rested? Hrmm... have to investigate.

Short run on the treadmill. Walked 0.5 miles, then ran one mile @ 6.2mph/1% grade as warmup. I was feeling really, really good, so I bumped the treadmill up to 8mph. I felt fine for the first 0.6 miles, then... THE TREADMILL BROKE. Totally stopped working. No lights, nothing. I moved to the other treadmill but it wouldn't go faster than 4mph. [sigh]. Finished by doing a light jog around the block. Total time ~30 minutes.

I'm fairly pleased with the way my body was dealing with the 8mph stretch. My HR was steady @170, which is fine considering I'm at least 10 pounds overweight and haven't done ANY faster running lately.

Swim practice. 2300 yards. Mix of swim/kick (which I do as side-swimming)/pull/swim. On my sets of 300 free, I was slow as hell (1:50/100 without flipturns.) Must... swim... more...

One full hour of stretching... Couldn't find the motivation to do anything else. This happens to me every winter. I usually snap out of it sometime late in January.

Awesome stretch/core session. Did every core exercise I could think of, and got in some good hamstring/hip flexor/back stretching.

Swim class. 2100 yards. I sucked tonight. Wasn't balanced at all. 100 kick, 100 pull, 200 swim warmup, then 4x200 (100 swim/100 drill [hesitation/finger tip drag/fist/one-arm), 3x200 back [pull/kick/swim], 3x100 free [pull/kick/swim], 150 pulls-and-roll.

I need to force myself to get to the pool more often.

40 minute trainer ride. Stretching and core stuff after (not a hard core workout.)

I'm a bit weaker on the trainer than I want to be, but it is the offseason and I'm not in a huge hurry to build.

30 minute Pilates / Core workout. Not my best core workout ever, but better than nothing. My hamstrings and lower back are very, very unflexible. I'm surprised I don't have more problems on the bike because of this lack of flexibility. I'm going to add more stretching to my fitness plan.

Mountainbike ride @ the San-Lee trails (with Suzanne). Tons of fun. I hadn't been mountainbiking in ages. I was a little bit tense at the start of the ride, but once I relaxed and found my groove I was fine. Suzanne took a few tumbles, but nothing too bad.

This was the first time I've been on the San-Lee trails. I was most impressed! The trails were clear of blowdowns, and really made good use of the terrain. They were flowy but still challenging. Much fun. Definitely on my list of trails to try again.
